History

Like so many others, my first attempt at bondage began in a hardware store. Asking the employee for ten 8m lengths of white nylon rope. I swear they were smirking as I bundled the rope. Trying to coil it like I’d seen in the tutorials. Maybe I just looked as I felt, the frustration of the early novitiate?

It’s been ten years since that first fateful day at the hardware store. It began as a thing to share with a my long-term partner. I didn’t realize how big the wider rope community was for a long time. I spent years learning and practicing on my own. When I finally began dipping my toe into the wider community I had a LOT to learn.

In the last five years I’ve quickly experienced the value of learning among like minded-travelers. There was so much relief being able to explore these things safely in a risk-aware community of like minded people.

It was only after many friends and acquaintances had asked to learn some rope as a personal interest of their own that I realized there was still more space in the scene for even more rope education! If you’re unaware, Portland has a thriving rope scene and I adore our local instructors. I highly recommend all their classes, check the affiliates page for links.

I never expected this to become what it has, but it seems people are still searching for new ways to connect. Rope is really having a bit of a moment right now in pop culture and our hope is to help beginners feel more competent, confident, and capable quickly.

Organizing Team

Eventure is curated by a small team of designers, researchers, and ecologists who believe that technology must serve the planet — not the other way around. Working between Milan, Nairobi, and São Paulo, the team brings together local knowledge and global collaboration to shape a gathering rooted in care, creativity, and systems thinking.
We don’t just program talks — we curate experiences, relationships, and ideas that grow long after the event ends.
